As many have stated before me, Coach Palone had a very strong and positive influence on my life when I played ball for him at Metairie Junior High in 1963 and 1964. I was not a great player but coach always made you push yourself to do better. My condolences to the family as I know this is a difficult time. He will always be in our thoughts. I have used stories about him with my children when they faced difficult challenges. God has another great person in heaven.

My thoughts and prayers for peace in this time of sorrow.... Coach Palone was my coach at Metairie Jr High 1963 and 1964..Coach never gave anyone special treatment, everyone was the same, if you went out for his team, no one got "cut"..You may not dress for every game, but you were part of the team..I also remember having to present coach with my report card, and then meeting the "board of education" if he thought your grades were below his expectations.. I still remember calling him "Mighty Mouse"..but of course, never to his face !!! The education system and more importantly the world, lost a fine man..Coach,give them Hell in Heaven,I sure you will win a Championship!! Hopefully, one day, I will have a chance to play on your team again.

Carol and Family,
Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. I'm sorry that I wasn't able to see you at the service on Monday. Please just know that Julius's "girls from Haynes" were there.

Mrs. Palone,
I never met you, however Coach Palone was my football coach at MJH. Well, I don't think he had another like me. As long as I play for him he would always have one shoe very polished and not so polished. My joke is that I wore out the tops of his shoes and he used up the bottoms.
I always have a good laugh at my self from those days, you see I could not remember certain plays, and well there was one play I especially had a serious mental block over. I think we spent one whole practice where he made the whole team run that play for most of the practice. I never did get it right. I know that had to be one of the stories he told for a while after I move on to EJ. I am sure he had many a laugh over the stuff I was always doing.
My mom was a single parent for most of my youth, and when she married my step dad he was at sea for most of that time. Coach Palone was for me "that" man who I learned from. I never took class from him, but the things I learned were not in the schools text books. He was a bright spot in my youth, and I am greatful God worked it out for me to be exposed to Coach's qualities.
Thank You, from my self and my sons.

My husband and I never knew the "tough" side of Julius Palone. He was already retired by the time we met him and his enchanting wife, Carol. His adoration for her was palpable. He was always a generous and charming companion. What struck us perhaps most of all was his love for and communion with animal. No "stray" was homeless if it crossed Julius' path. Beneath that "tough" exterior beat a heart of pure gold.
